Description

The City of Santa Monica is excited to bring you the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Classes. This course is for participants 15 years and older who would like to become a certified Lifeguard. We combine in-depth online learning with detailed class instruction, demonstration and practice.

This is a Blended Learning course. All participants must have access to the Internet. Students must attend all classes, complete all online segments and turn in weekly progress reports to pass. In addition, students must also execute all skills assessments and score 80% or higher on the written exam.

Course Prerequisites:
  • Must be 15 years old.
  • Swim 150 yards nonstop using front crawl and breaststroke, then Tread Water for 2 minutes, then Swim 50 yards.
  • Retrieve 10 lb. weight from deep water and then Swim 20 yards with the weight using legs only.

American Red Cross (ARC) courses offered at the Swim Center are conducted in English only and follow standardized curriculum and assessment requirements established by the American Red Cross. Course content is provided by the American Red Cross, and due to copyright restrictions, the City may not modify or translate the course content. The American Red Cross does not provide printed course materials in languages other than English. Participants must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language to successfully participate in and complete course instruction and assessments.
